Telehealth music therapy is live, interactive, and accessible from any location with a stable internet connection.
What takes place in a telehealth music therapy session?
Singing to promote communication and social interaction
Guided movement to music experiences to address motor objectives
Facilitated discussion and cognitive stimulation
Emotional support and therapist-facilitated emotional expression
Any other individualized objectives tailored to the client
What do I need to participate in telehealth music therapy?
Internet access
A video-enabled device including projectors, laptops, tablets, smartphones, etc
Speakers connected to your video device loud enough for participants to hear
Camera connected to your video device able to capture participants
Who can participate in telehealth music therapy?
Eligibility for telehealth music therapy is determined on a case-by-case basis. Telehealth music therapy has been successfully implemented with various individuals including but not limited to individuals with psychiatric diagnoses, genetic disorders, Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, and Autism.
In some cases, it may be helpful for a caregiver who is physically present with the client to act as an aide, giving physical support with guidance from the board-certified music therapist.
